Artifacts from the American Pomeroys Collection
To accomplish the mission of the American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Association:
“To promote interest in and study of American history through the lens of the Pomeroy family,”
the collection includes examples of important objects related to the Pomeroy name. Holdings include examples of riveting machines and other bench tools patented by H.C. Pomeroy, prescription books kept by Dr. Thomas W. Pomeroy, clockworks developed by Noah Pomeroy, and ceramics depicting Berry Pomeroy Castle. Much of the collection includes archival documents, photographs, and personal mementos owned by members of the Pomeroy family directly related to William G. Pomeroy, Jr. For all of these holdings, the APHGA works “to preserve the heritage of the North American Pomeroys and their allied families.”

Dimensional Objects
The American Pomeroys holds dozens of objects presenting the history of Pomeroy inventors, clockwork makers, companies related to Pomeroy family members such as the McKeen Motor Car Company, Champagne Pommery, as well as the personal collection of William G. Pomeroy, Jr., and the corporate collection of CABLExpress/CXtec from 1978-2016.
Archival Collections
In addition to preserving physical two- and three-dimensional objects, the APHGA houses the personal and family papers of many Pomeroy family members and allied families. Additionally, the corporate archives related to the business that William G. Pomeroy, Jr., operated from 1978-2017 are maintained, organized, and made accessible. At this time, finding aids for these collections are in the development and refinement stage and will be made accessible in the future. If you believe there may be something in the holdings able to assist in your genealogy or research project, please contact the archives manager.
The Frederick Lawrence Pomeroy Collection consists of family correspondence, news clippings about the General Pomeroy Monument, telegrams, and transcripts of sermons. The collection is of interest to those studying the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 and the “trust-busting” practices of Roosevelt as it gives some insight into standard business practices of the time and the effect of the conviction on Pomeroy and his family. Mrs. Ophelia Pomeroy maintained correspondence with Rev. Albert Lyman, a prominent Congregationalist minister, and many of his letters are found in the collection.
Photographic Collections
The Truman E. Pomeroy Family Photographs Collection consists of 46 images of the extended family of Truman E. Pomeroy Jr., all dating from the mid-19th to early 20th centuries. This collection contains portraits of multiple generations of the Pomeroy family, as well as many members of secondary lines, including the Opdycke, Reed, Persons, Norway, and McIntire families. Almost every individual in this collection is listed in the APHGA’s family tree database where a detailed record of their life and genealogy is available.
The APHGA is a member of New York Heritage, a research portal for students, educators, historians, genealogists, and anyone else who is interested in learning more about the people, places and institutions of New York State.
