Pioneer Settlers of Tiffin, Ohio
Francis Austin Pomeroy (b. 28 Mar 1846, Sandusky, OH, d. 3 Jan 1932 Columbus, OH) married on 7 Feb 1884 in Tiffin, OH, Bertha Camilla Bowe (b. 13 Nov 1848, Tiffin, OH, d. 3 Dec 1930, Pittsburgh, PA) Their son, Edwin Guilford Pomeroy, was Bill Pomeroy's grandfather. Bill was fortunate to inherit five old photo albums belonging to his great-grandmother Bertha and her son Edwin.
Bertha Bowe was the daughter of Erastus Guilford Bowe and Mary Elizabeth Hart. Erastus Guilford Bowe's father, Erastus Bowe was one of the earliest settlers of Tiffin, OH. Erastus Guilford Bowe's house on Franklin Street has been lovingly and accurately renovated by it's current owner, Phil Engle.
These photo albums contain pictures of the Bowe family and their friends who lived in and around Tiffin, OH. They provide a unique 'slice of life' that tells the history of Tiffin during the mid to late 19th century.
While many of these photographs are identified, many others are not. We are asking those Bowe relatives and all those with ties to Tiffin, OH, to please look at the pictures in the albums and let us know if you can identify any of these people.
I have also included a brief outline genealogy of the Erastus Bowe family. We look forward to connecting with others researching this family!
